  What Do Donations Support?

A donation to Brandywine Counseling supports our work, helping addicted Delawareans change behaviors and attitudes. It's one of the best ways to invest your charitable dollars or your volunteer time. Here are just a few reasons why:

• The Delaware Needle Exchange has exchanged over 17,000 syringes, enrolled over 500 participants, and identified 11 HIV positives in two years of operation.

• 412 methadone patients (40%) have at least 90 days of abstinence and have some take-home privileges.

• We've reduced our patients' wait time for psychiatric services by 4 to 5 weeks across all locations, using existing staff and without added costs.

• Alpha North Wilmington increased its patient census from 28 to 60 after moving to the Edgemoor Community Center.

• The Lighthouse Women and Children's residential program will soon have its first graduate, and is expanding from 10 beds to 14.

• The BCI Capital Endowment Fund helps us maintain comfortable, state-of-the-art facilities. In past years, donations to the Fund have supported construction of a children's playground at Lighthouse, repairs to our facilities, and renovations to the Lancaster Avenue dispensing area.

• Treatment Services - Drug addiction treatment is cost-effective and less expensive than the alternatives of incarcerating addicts or not treating them at all. Every $1 invested in addiction treatment programs results in a return of $4-$7 in reduced drug-related crime, theft, and criminal justice costs. When savings related to health care are included, the total return can be as high as $12. If you wish, you may designate your donation for the BCI program of your choice.

• HIV Prevention - BCI’s HIV Prevention Services unit is the beneficiary of our United Way funding. This innovative program helps connect individuals in need of treatment to the appropriate resources. Services include street outreach, risk reduction, and free HIV testing.
